Creating your Resume as a Fresher
We’ve all been there, ‘fresh’ out of school with maybe one internship under our belt (or not), and we are supposed to get ourselves a job already? For someone who cannot distinguish between a CV and a Resume is now required to craft one for themselves? Wow.
If you are someone who is going through the same dilemma, don’t worry, we are here to help you out. Through this blog post, we’ll give you an insight on how to create that *perfect* resume for freshers.
Alright so you need to take care of the following 4 C’s in your resume:
· Clean
· Clear
· Crisp
· Concise
- Clean is the way of presenting your resume: The font size and type should be readable and aesthetically pleasing. Stick to using fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, or Calibri. Do not use more than two fonts in your resume. A font size of 12 seems like the right choice for the body with your name is the largest font in the whole resume. The margins should be taken care of, and a sufficient amount of white space should be maintained for the resume to be easy on the eyes.
2. Clear is the kind of information you’re presenting to the interviewer: The information you provide should be accurate. Make sure that the hierarchy of information is followed, i.e. you should write the data in reverse chronological order. The course you did or the class you studied last should be written first. Eg. For mentioning your class 10th and 12th, you should write class 12th first, followed by class 10th next. This is reverse chronology (lit. sequence) order.
3. Crisp is being to the point and avoiding long sentences: Using bullet points is one way of presenting the information. Make sure you don’t use a lot of bullet points, and that will negate their purpose. Using bold or italics on the text can help to highlight the required text, efficiently too.
4. Concise is maintaining brevity: One good rule is keeping your resume within 1 page to accommodate the interviewer’s attention span of 6 seconds. The information should be self-explanatory. One way to do this avoid using a lot of jargon? In case you didn’t know what jargons are, don’t worry — we won’t belittle you for not knowing. Jargons are technical terms specific to your field/ industry.

· Don’t include your picture in your resume. It is a complete NO in the Indian job scene.
· Stay away from listing your kiddish school achievements like winning the painting competition in class 6th or maybe attending a summer camp in class 10th. It isn’t professional.
· What is professional is creating your Linked account and hyperlinking it in your resume! This one will take your resume miles ahead.
· And the greater question of all — Should you include your summary? Well, it is your choice, sometimes it is necessary, and sometimes it isn’t. In case you are sure that your summary is hitting right at what job you are targeting, then it will be a good idea to add it. But remember, writing a summary takes up space too, which you shouldn’t compromise.
